About This Book

The drama unfolds in a pastoral, courtly world where a young woman raised in a hermitage falls in love with and weds a visiting ruler; their happiness is shattered when a sage’s curse causes him to forget her and a lost token obscures her identity. She survives separation, rears their child, and moves through episodes of lyrical nature description, songs, and small comic or devotional scenes. The play examines memory, fate, and the clash between social ritual and personal devotion, and it resolves with the recovery of evidence that restores recognition and brings a reconciliatory reunion.
