About This Book

A first-person narrator becomes captivated by a spirited woman named Sarah and follows her from fashionable resorts into a harsh desert, where romance and danger entwine. The narrative traces their encounters, escalating from flirtation and rivalry to kidnapping, daring escapes, encounters with nomads and wild beasts, tombs and near-burial, and eventual loss and rescue. Punctuated by episodic set pieces and illustrated scenes, the tale blends adventure, melodrama, and romantic obsession while moving between urbane pleasures and the stark, perilous landscape that tests loyalties and passions.
