About This Book
An inebriated man falls asleep on Christmas Eve and dreams of a realm where schnapps flows freely, producing drunken imps, demons, and a relentless battle that leaves many dead. A small green imp cuts his bonds and an angel then guides him to a peaceful landscape where a clear restorative elixir is offered as a superior alternative to drink. He awakens to Christmas bells, resolves to give up schnapps, hurries home with gifts, and reconciles with his family. The poem uses vivid dream imagery to portray temptation, consequence, and moral reform.
