The story follows a group of children spending a summer at a woodland camp who encounter a series of mishaps and adventures: a near-drowning rescue, a lost watch and ensuing trial, a dangerous fire and a den-based confrontation, a storm and mountain encampment, a dramatic baseball match, periods of being pursued and then found, and quiet days of recovery. Through these episodes their friendships, courage, and practical skills are tested and strengthened, with local guides and neighbors aiding their efforts. Episodes mix outdoor life, youthful play, and sudden peril, building to a warm farewell at summer's end.
