About This Book
The narrative is set on a rocky Cycladic island where commerce and notaries shape daily life; a young man, Melirytos, seeks a large loan from the influential notary Serlendis, claiming to be sole heir of a dying benefactor and offering that inheritance as security. Political and social maneuvers, secrecy, and financial obstacles complicate his plan, and soon after his patron's death Melirytos is detained by authorities and imprisoned, leaving his motives, relationships, and the consequences of the disputed legacy uncertain as the story develops into a tale of love, duty, and suspense.
