Spasimo

The narrative opens with the sudden death of a woman found shot in her lakeside villa and the frantic grief of her companion, whose distraught behavior draws more attention than the corpse. A bustling colony of onlookers, servants' statements and a doctor's brief verdict set the scene for an inquiry that slowly exposes tangled relationships, rumors and emotional motives. A young woman with short, masculine hair who stands aloof at the window becomes a focus of suspicion and gossip while social elites debate causes, propriety and responsibility for the private catastrophe.
