Storm Over Warlock

The narrative follows Shann Lantee, a Terran survey officer who survives a sudden, precise assault by insectoid Throgs that annihilates his camp on an amber-tinted world. Isolated and outnumbered, he joins with Thorvald and a pair of wolverines to mount hit-and-run sorties, improvising firebombs, spears and snares to harry the occupiers. As small-scale battles continue, the survivors encounter strange artifacts, deceptive phenomena and enigmatic local powers that complicate rescue and resistance. Action-driven skirmishes and escapes alternate with explorations of adaptation, resourcefulness and the moral choices forced by contact with unfamiliar intelligences and an unforgiving environment.
