About This Book

A collection of short, personified narratives in which everyday playthings recount their origins, craftsmanship, misadventures, and the roles they occupy in children's domestic life. Each chapter treats a different toy or set of toys—including balls, hoops, dolls, tea and kitchen sets, marbles, a rocking horse, a kite, and toy animals—tracing how they were made, lost, mended, or treasured.
