A scientific detective applies chemistry, radio technology, and ingenious listening devices to unravel a fatal collision of family greed, romance, and industrial intrigue. When a wealthy heir is found dead after a contentious family conference aboard a yacht, investigation exposes lovers and a cabaret dancer, framed suspects, coded letters, invisible ink, poison gas, and a sequence of technological eavesdropping schemes. The detective traces wireless wiretapping, geophones, and other novel appliances to identify conspirators, counter espionage methods, and clarify a complex plot of deception and attempted murder.
