Entered as a Private; for his soldier-like qualities,
strict discipline and gallantry on the battle-field was
promoted in quick succession to Corporal, Sergeant,
Sergeant-Major, 2d Lieutenant, 1st Lieutenant, and
Captain of Company E, acting part of the time as
Regimental Adjutant.
Besides participating in many skirmishes Captain
Cohen took part in the battles at Cross Keys, Port
Republic, Rappahannock Station, White Sulphur Springs,
Slaughter Mountain, Manassas, Bull Run and Chantilly.
Being disqualified for further active duty he was
honorably discharged, as shown by the annexed
official order:
