TRANSCRIBER’S NOTE

Archaic, unusual and obsolete spellings have been maintained as in the original. Some words of French origin which are known in English, but unusual, appear in this text. The only changes from the original were to fix a few accents on French terms and add the Publisher’s Catalog and the Transcriber’s Note to the Table of Contents, and as detailed below:
