About This Book

Two young boys traveling in Europe at the outbreak of the great war find their journey interrupted by armed pursuit and hostile action, forcing them into perilous flight across contested territory. After encountering wrecked trains, cavalry patrols, and spies, they reach and join local military forces, serving in messenger and reconnaissance roles. The narrative follows their experiences in front-line engagements, aerial observation, artillery duels, capture and escape, and the loss of their vehicles, with frequent technical descriptions and line drawings of weapons, fortifications, maps, and aircraft that illustrate the tactics and machinery they encounter.
