About This Book
A nineteenth-century narrative traces Daniel Boone's life from boyhood through his hunting and exploration beyond the Alleghanies into Kentucky, describing woodland travel, encounters with panthers, bears, buffalo herds, capture by and skirmishes with Native American groups, and the hardships of pioneer settlement. It recounts returns to North Carolina, leading survey and settlement parties, the founding and defense of frontier stations such as Boonesborough and Harrodsburg, prisoner rescues, sieges, and the everyday privations and resourcefulness of early settlers, combining episodic adventure with sketches of landscape and frontier society.
