About This Book
A group of vicarage children discover a shy foreign girl who lives at a nearby Grange and befriend her in a wooded glen, sharing games, simple lessons, and stories of fairies. A visiting gentleman offers regular tutoring, bringing the children daily lessons and closer acquaintance with the girl's household and its strict father. The narrative follows the children's joyful play and learning, their curiosity about the girl's background, occasional encounters with travellers, and an unfolding family secret that brings sorrow and tests their loyalties.
