About This Book

This bibliography compiles a chronological listing of English-language fiction and poetry in which male homosexuality is central or present, spanning roughly 700 B.C. to 1958. It divides entries into Primary works, where homosexuality is intrinsic, and Other-Than-Primary works, which are classified by letter codes reflecting the degree and nature of homosexual content; entries also carry asterisk ratings for relative emphasis. The volume explains citation conventions and paperback/reprint abbreviations, states inclusion and exclusion criteria, provides multiple indexes by author, locale, occupation and topic, and notes sources while inviting corrections and updates.

Transcriber’s Notes

  • Obvious typographic errors silently corrected. Terminal punctuation standardized with a period.
  • Index punctuation standardized to a consistent style. Obvious typos in the cross references silently corrected.
  • To avoid any ambiguity, repeated authors and ditto marks in the index replaced with the full text of what’s being repeated.
  • Standardized the punctuation and indentation in the Index for uniformity.
  • The index entries for "Goodwin, P53" don't correspond to an existing entry in the Primary bibliography but likely refer to John Goodwin, The Idols and the Prey, New York: Harper & Brothers, 1953.
  • The index entry for "Home, 47" does not correspond to any listing in the OTP bibliography.
