About This Book
A small girl named Mary Louise spends a seaside summer and is carried into a string of short fantasy adventures that lead beneath the waves and onto suddenly appearing islands. She meets mermaids, mermen, sea horses, serpents, and other enchanted creatures, visits coral palaces, caverns, and castle gardens, and acquires or uses magical objects such as a pearly comb. Additional episodes send her to toy cities and candy realms, with gentle dangers, resourceful problem-solving, and a prevailing sense of wonder and discovery guiding each imaginative encounter.
