About This Book

The author surveys the traditional practice of couching for cataract in India, tracing its history and examining the men who perform it and their operating habits. He provides detailed technical descriptions of anterior and posterior couching methods, instruments, patient positioning, and illustrated operative maneuvers. A substantial statistical section analyzes hospital material to quantify outcomes and complications. The pathological anatomy is explored through microscopic and macroscopic study of numerous eyes, documenting lens displacement, inflammatory exudates, retinal detachment, fistulae, and related sequelae. Diagnostic guidance, clinical observations, and practical recommendations for surgeons and further research complete the treatment.
