About This Book

The story follows four spirited young women who leave their ranch to travel with a wandering caravan, seeking adventure and opportunity. Their journey brings encounters with colorful travelers, mistaken identities, romantic entanglements, and perilous situations that test their courage and loyalty. Along the way they discover unexpected fortunes and learn practical resourcefulness while deepening friendships and returning changed by experience. The narrative unfolds episodically through travel episodes and domestic scenes that blend humor, suspense, and coming-of-age themes.

"O beautiful rainbow, all woven of light!
There's not in thy tissue one shadow of night;
Heaven surely is open when thou dost appear,
And bending above thee, the angels draw near
And sing: 'The Rainbow! The Rainbow!
The smile of God is here.'"

The next book in this series devoted to the histories of the ranch girls will find them living in a totally new environment. How they are to enjoy the life of a fashionable boarding school; how their unconventional ideas will influence their school mates; what effect their sudden possession of great wealth will have upon them, and whether Jack will find her health, Olive her parentage, and what will develop for Ruth, must be told in a third volume to be entitled: "The Ranch Girls at Boarding School."

The Ranch Girls Series

The first volume of this series is entitled "The Ranch Girls at Rainbow Lodge." "The Ranch Girls' Pot of Gold" is the second volume of the series. The story of the four "Ranch Girls" continues along lines of constantly increasing interest, and the change of scene accomplished in the third volume of the series, "The Ranch Girls at Boarding School," shows them in a new and strange environment. How they bring the ideals and standards of the big open West to the solution of many of their problems in this new field creates a story even more absorbingly interesting than either of its predecessors.
