About This Book

The volume recounts military operations and naval actions during the war, focusing on a southern campaign against the Creek with arduous marches, repeated mutinies, and decisive engagements; a daring naval cruise in the Pacific that captures enemy whalers and culminates in blockade and surrender; and northern campaigns including assaults on frontier posts, the battles at Chippewa and Niagara, and the siege and sortie at Fort Erie. It combines tactical descriptions of troop movements, skirmishes, and sieges with vivid accounts of naval exploits and character sketches of commanders across multiple theaters.
