About This Book

A childless king and queen finally have a daughter whose fairy godmothers grant beauty, skill, and kindness, but a slighted fairy declares she will prick her finger on a spindle and fall into a hundred years of sleep, to be awakened by a prince. The king tries to prevent the fate by banning spinning-wheels and hiding the danger, and the princess is raised beloved and accomplished; nonetheless, on her fifteenth birthday she encounters a spindle and the curse takes effect, plunging the palace into enchanted sleep until a prince arrives and breaks the spell, restoring life and love to the court.
