The Soul Eaters

The story follows spacer Dennis Brooke, a once-respected I.S.P. officer grounded after a missed opportunity to capture the space pirate Koerber and suffering a personal heartbreak. While drifting through decadent Venusian society he becomes involved in a violent encounter that ties him to Koerber's crew, then receives a final chance at redemption: to capture the pirate. The pursuit leads to capture, betrayal, and abandonment on a rogue planet, where Brooke confronts a mysterious, nonphysical menace that resists conventional weapons and forces him to rely on ingenuity and courage to survive and expose treachery.
