Valedictory.
It now, kind friends, devolves on me
To speak our Val-e-dic-to-ry;
You’ve seen our Exhibition through,
We’ve tried to please each one of you—
And if we’ve failed in any part,
Lay it to head, and not to heart;
For we have striven, night and day,
To study well both speech and play.
We hope, within another year,
Again before you to appear.
But e’er we part—before you go—
We wish you one and all to know
We thank you for your presence here—
Such kindness does our bosoms cheer,
And causes every boy to feel
He ought to study with more zeal;
While all the girls it will inspire
With an ambition to rise higher.
We feel much more than words can tell—
Accept our heart-felt thanks—farewell!
