About This Book

A merry band of small fairies — Tiddly Winks, Tiddly Wee, Tiddly Thrift, Tiddly Cheer-Up, Tiddly Scowl and Tiddly Why — guide beginning readers through simple, graded lessons in letters, numbers, manners and daily routines. Short illustrated episodes set in a schoolroom, a picnic, gardens and play scenes use repetition and playful mischief to teach reading, counting, saving, cooperation and punctuality. Household and schoolroom objects are personified, creating lively classroom interactions and gentle moral examples. The collection is organized as brief, easily decodable stories and rhymes intended for early readers learning the alphabet, basic vocabulary and social habits.

TO REMEMBER

Tiddly Winks heard the School Bell ringing.

He called, “Good-bye, School Bell.”

The School Bell said,

“Good bye, good bye, please remember,
School begins next September.”

Tiddly Winks answered,

“I will try to remember,
About next September!”

Tiddly Winks went into school.

He called, “Good-bye, Waste Basket.”

The Waste Basket replied,

“I’ll be at work as I remember,
Very early in September!”

Tiddly Winks looked at the Clock.

He called, “Good-bye, Mr. Time Keeper.”
