The Translation of a Savage, Volume 2

The narrative follows Lali's slow recovery after an accident and her gradual transformation from longing for a former, wilder life into a mother who adopts social refinement. She learns that her husband never loved her and insists that he be kept unaware of her condition and the child's birth. Under the tutelage of Richard and the Armours she studies language, manners, music, and riding, devotes herself to her son—who is named for Richard—and prepares for a move to London. Richard's protective friendship deepens, reviving facets of his character and altering his previously solitary routine.
