A practical field manual for identifying savannah trees of northern Nigeria, organized as an alphabetical account of some 120 species spanning about 30 plant families. Each entry begins with a general description of form, height, girth and habitat, followed by standardized paragraphs on bark and slash, thorns, wood, leaves, flowers, fruits, seeds, and known uses for quick reference. The text is illustrated with life-size and enlarged drawings of diagnostic parts, occasional sectional sketches made with a pocket lens, and timber notes describing colour, grain and working properties. Appendices supply flowering-season tables, a family list and an index of native names.
