About This Book
A stuffed velveteen rabbit, initially overlooked among newer mechanical toys, becomes the favored companion of a small boy and learns from an older toy what it means to be Real: to be loved until wear and loss transform appearance. The rabbit's devotion wins deep affection, leading to shabby but treasured condition, and when illness endangers the household the toy faces destruction. A fairy intervenes and grants literal life, allowing the rabbit to join living rabbits while keeping the memory of the boy's love. Through simple episodes and gentle allegory the tale explores love, identity, and the gap between appearance and inner reality.
