Told through diary entries, memos, and journal fragments, the narrative follows a sociomatics scholar who secretly uses a time-grappling device to abduct sixteen Christians from ancient Rome for study. When the physicist inventor detects a temporal hole and warns of a possible time collapse, the scholar scrambles to conceal the breach by finding replacement subjects who match the original group's crucial characteristic of willing martyrdom, even if they must be taken from another era. The story mixes dark comedy and bureaucratic detail while probing the ethical and practical consequences of temporal experimentation.
