About This Book

The story follows a daredevil Native chief named Scalping Louie who breaks from his reservation to steal cattle and burn ranch buildings, prompting a posse of Arizona ranchers to pursue him. Ranch owner Sam Bowser is roused by an eerie cry and a ghostlike light over his corral as cattle stampede, and he joins neighboring ranchers in a trail that leads through a treacherous swamp where he nearly drowns and through fires set to smoke out the renegade. After tense tracking, a marksman cowboy aided by an elderly half-breed scout reaches the raider's lair and delivers the final shot.
