About This Book

The narrative follows two young frontier cousins and their companions as they push into Ohio country after the colonial wars, hunting and establishing a trading post. Their journey alternates hunting scenes, encounters with wild beasts, and skirmishes with hostile Indian parties, including ambushes, rescues, snowbound marches, and a climactic defense of a trading post. Episodes show scouting, travel hardships, and transformations from conflict to reconciliation with some foes, and the volume closes with a return to peace while highlighting themes of survival, courage, loyalty, and the risks of westward expansion.
