About This Book

A regimental chronicle recounts one year of service by a Massachusetts volunteer infantry regiment during the Spanish–American War, tracing its mobilization, camp life, training, marches and garrison duty from encampments in the United States through service in Cuba. It describes conditions at Chickamauga Park, outbreaks of disease, administrative movements to Kentucky and Georgia, occupation of Matanzas, and the regiment's return and mustering out. The narrative combines operational overview with company-by-company sketches, rolls of honor, casualty and strength statistics, and a chronology and appendix that preserve officers' names and local community ties.
