Wheels Within

The narrative follows Bennett, a man plagued by recurring headaches and vivid hallucinations of a towering city called Thone and a single idealized woman, Lima. A neurologist rules out organic causes and suggests the visions stem from emotional frustration; episodes increasingly detach him from his body and mingle with waking life. During one episode he finds himself riding through a Pleasure Section and drawn to a carnival act billed LIMA MYSTIC OF THE MIND, where a poised female performer appears to read thoughts and echo his dream imagery. The story examines blurred boundaries between fantasy and reality, obsession with an unattainable image, and the dangerous lure of self-deception.
