About This Book
The narrative follows a strikingly charismatic young man whose easy charm unwittingly captivates a poor crossing-sweeper boy. Small acts of generosity ignite an intense attachment: the boy waits for the man's passing, treasures brief interactions, and insists the man's presence warms him. The man, largely unaware of his influence, offers simple kindnesses. Their encounters illuminate urban poverty and class difference while examining sympathy, unconscious authority, and the consolation of fleeting human connection; when the man's absence persists, the boy experiences growing desolation and longing.
