Wohl dem, der geschworen
Zur Fahne den Eid,
Der sich zum Schmuck erkoren
Des Königs Waffenkleid!

Sei Treue verraten,
Sei Ehre verbannt,
Doch gehn mit dem Soldaten
Sie beide Hand in Hand.

Es grüßt ja zur Seite
Sein Säbel ihm zu
Und ruft ihm aus der Scheide:
»So treu wie Stahl seist du!«

Die Büchse, sie winket
So freundlich und rein;
So rein als wie sie blinket,
Soll seine Ehre sein.

Das tönt ihm so süße,
Das schwellt ihm den Arm,
Das macht, wie Liebchens Küsse,
Soldatenherz so warm!

Drum auf! Es ertönen
Trompeten voll Mut!
In Vaterlandessöhnen
Wallt treues Heldenblut!

Die Welt mag zerreißen
Die Schwüre wie Spreu;
Ich weiß ein Wort wie Eisen,
Es heißt: Soldatentreu'.
