Der ersten Silb' entströmen Wein und Lieder,
Und was du einsam denkst, macht sie bekannt,
Oft geht sie mit dem Zwang auch Hand in Hand,
Schlägt selbst in Fesseln deine freien Glieder!
Doch gibt das zweite Paar dir Hoffnung wieder;
Sein Feueratem weht von Land zu Land,
Sprengt deines Kerkers festgetürmte Wand,
Wirft deine Häscher, deine Fesseln nieder.
Scheint Zwei mit Eins sich nimmer zu vertragen.
So ist das Ganze doch ein hohes Wort,
Woran man nur den Widerspruch getadelt;
Doch hat sein Widerspruch manch großen Geist geadelt!
Fürwahr! es starb des Letzten letzter Hort,
Wär' es gestorben jüngst in unsern Tagen.
