Youngling: A Terran Empire story

On a distant planet, a captured human major faces brutal interrogation by massive gray-skinned Traiti appalled that he led female soldiers into combat; cultural taboos about the rarity and sanctity of females fuel the interrogator’s disgust and cruelty. The Marine endures pain while refusing to betray his purpose until he activates an anti-interrogation conditioning that collapses his adult identity into a childlike, wailing state. The resulting role reversal interrupts the violence and forces both sides to confront the costs of military conditioning, differing values about honor and gender, and the human consequences of warfare.
