Ypres to Verdun / A Collection of Photographs of the War areas in France & Flanders

This collection presents nearly 250 photographs taken across French and Flemish battle zones, organized by region, that document the physical devastation of towns, fields, roads, trenches, fortifications, cemeteries, and other landmarks. Images range from ruined cathedrals and rubble-strewn streets to shell-pocked countryside, defensive emplacements, evacuation scenes, and winter views, accompanied by introductory commentary that explains the challenge of conveying the scale of destruction and the intent to preserve a visual record before reconstruction. The plates guide the reader through successive sectors of the war landscape, rendering familiar place names into recognisable, concrete scenes.
