The Sea Fairies

A lively girl named Trot and her sailor companion Cap'n Bill descend into the sea and discover a populated, fantastical undersea realm where mermaids speak, sing, and practice a peculiar kind of magic. They tour coral palaces and social gatherings, encounter whimsical marine characters from aristocratic codfish to a bashful octopus, and witness banquets and court life beneath the waves. Dangers arise in the form of a giant sea-serpent, a malign magician commanding sea-devils, and enchanted islands that cause captivity, prompting perilous escapes. Intervention by oceanic royalty and clever uses of mermaid magic enable rescue and the pair's eventual return to the surface, where the child survives to tell the tale.
