Let the Ants Try

The story follows Salva Gordy, a survivor of a nuclear attack who returns to a ruined city, mourning lost family and living in isolation. He shelters a fellow survivor, John de Terry, and the two confront a landscape of mutations that have altered plants and animals. Gordy discovers and studies unusually developed ants whose respiratory changes suggest they could grow far larger, while authorities seek a scientific device he once proposed as a weapon. The narrative traces attempts to survive, scientific curiosity about altered lifeforms, and reflections on human self-destruction and the possibility that mutated species may inherit the ruined world.
