Chapter 21: Index of Globes and Globe Makers
Open in WeRead

About This Book

This volume offers a systematic, chronological survey of terrestrial and celestial globe making from the early seventeenth through the late eighteenth century, profiling notable makers and regional workshops, describing technical developments in materials, projections, gore production, and mountings, and discussing special forms such as armillary spheres, moon globes, and planetaria. It analyzes changing scientific and popular uses of globes, reproduces representative examples and illustrations, and concludes with a technical chapter on construction methods plus an extensive bibliographical list and indexes to support further study.
