The Tantalus Death

A Martian ambassador, Olduk, repeatedly appeals to Earth's global council for water, recounting past conflicts and his people's attempts at peaceful negotiation. After years of refusals and public mockery, a strange phenomenon transforms liquid water into solid, clinging spheres that cannot be poured or consumed, trapping leaders in impotent thirst. The Martian delegation departs to carry out a planned response, and Earth descends into crisis as scarce water becomes inaccessible and political decisions yield catastrophic consequences.
