About This Book

An officer's operational monograph presents the German General Staff's narrative of the fighting around Ypres in autumn 1914, tracing theatre organization, Fourth Army advances, major assaults and counteractions, and the final phases of the engagement. It reconstructs troop dispositions and orders of battle, describes artillery, logistic and engineering activity, and highlights operational difficulties such as terrain and supply. The text is accompanied by maps and sketches, an introductory commentary and critical notes that compare planned operations with battlefield realities, and appendices listing unit organizations and orders of battle used during the actions.
