About This Book
A young, flamboyantly dressed rider named Jack arrives at a desert community and becomes entangled in its hopes and troubles, drawing close to Mary while confronting the bully Pete Leddy and other local tensions. Pulled to the city, he moves through the world of finance and social pretension, faces questions of ancestry and identity, and endures tests of reputation and principle. Ultimately he returns to the desert settlement and must reconcile personal ambitions with communal obligations, settling into a defined place in life and resolving his romantic ties.
