Midnight

A seasoned private investigator named Carroll probes the late-night slaying of Roland Warren, following leads from an icy taxi ride and a mysterious woman seen in the cab; he interviews members of the victim's social circle, including the engaged Hazel Gresham and the outspoken Evelyn Rogers, examines a crucial suitcase, tests alibis, and questions servants and associates as accusations and revelations mount; through methodical detective work, confrontations, and a final confession the tangled web of motives and deceptions is unraveled and the murderer identified.
