Ralph Granger's Fortunes

The narrative follows a young country boy whose family feud propels him to leave home and seek work in the low country and at sea. At sea he endures strict discipline, storms, and a boarding by a cruiser, later traveling upriver toward the Gold Coast where he faces wilderness skirmishes, separation from companions, and physical suffering.
