About This Book
A little white baby living on a hill estate in India is cared for by his ayah and plays with a cat and dog on a verandah. A wily snake lures him into the surrounding jungle with promises of prettier flowers, leading him past predators who plan to eat him; the child's innocence and affection disarm each animal and turn them into companions. Household animals and servants search for him, and the story emphasizes danger transformed into friendship among humans and beasts.
