About This Book
A young orphaned Alpine girl is sent to live with her reclusive grandfather, where she brings warmth to mountain folk and forms a close friendship with a goatherd boy. She is later taken to a wealthy city household to be companion to a sick girl, but urban strictness and homesickness undermine her health. After returning to the Alps she recovers, and her simple vitality helps her friend to visit and regain strength. The narrative contrasts pastoral freedom and urban constraint, and explores themes of childhood resilience, healing through nature, kindness, and the restorative power of community.
