About This Book
An alien named Groverzb relocates to a planet of diminutive, silent inhabitants to compose a piano concerto in peace. Although his instrument is sound and his score precise, his playing becomes a painful cacophony that he cannot explain. The locals react by dismantling the piano and removing him from the settlement; an interpreter then demonstrates that their communication is percussive and nonverbal and that they interpret his expressive noises as excessive talking. The episode uses a comic mismatch of expectations to explore cultural misunderstanding and the ironic difficulty of finding absolute quiet.
