About This Book
Two young settlers set out to find a stray cow and are soon swept into a larger frontier adventure that tests their endurance and character. Their search brings them into contact with hunters, Shawanoe and Winnebago warriors, and a solitary Shawanoe called Deerfoot, producing tense confrontations, daring rescues, and shifting alliances. The story moves through episodic hunting excursions, campfire scenes, long marches, skirmishes, and a river voyage, portraying wilderness survival, hunting craft, and cultural friction on the Ozark frontier while focusing on loyalty, bravery, and resourcefulness.
