About This Book
The work presents a chronological narrative of a Macedonian ruler’s rise and the wider political and military context of Greece and the Persian realms, following the campaigns that expanded his power across Asia and into the Indian subcontinent. It analyzes Macedonian society, royal institutions, army organization, logistics, sieges, and major battles, and describes how conquered territories were administered. The account follows the return marches, internal disturbances among soldiers and officers, dynastic and ceremonial actions, and the ruler’s final illness and death. Appendices provide annotations, registers of names and places, glossaries of military terms, a genealogical chart, and maps to clarify the movements described.
