A Choice of Miracles

The story follows Andy Larson, a crash survivor left immobilized in a dense alien jungle after his ship wrecks; he lies helpless as night falls, listening for rescue while fearing predatory creatures and the approach of a search patrol. He oscillates between prayer, memories of his pregnant wife Elsie, and resignation to death, haunted by loneliness and the loss of fatherhood. Exhaustion brings hallucination or miracle when he perceives Elsie's voice calling, prompting hope and ambiguity about whether the contact is real. The narrative examines survival, faith, and the human yearning for connection in extremis.
